Preventable patient harms, including medical errors and healthcare-associated complications, are a global public health threat. Moreover, patients frequently do not receive treatments and interventions known to improve their outcomes. These shortcomings typically result not from individual clinicians’ mistakes, but from systemic problems -- communication breakdowns, poor teamwork, and poorly designed care processes, to name a few. The Patient Safety & Quality Leadership Specialization covers the concepts and methodologies used in process improvement within healthcare.

Stability and Capability in Quality Improvement

In this course, you will learn to analyze data in terms of process stability and statistical control and why having a stable process is imperative prior to perform statistical hypothesis testing. You will create statistical process control charts for both continuous and discrete data using R software. You will analyze data sets for statistical control using control rules based on probability.

Process Improvement: a Kaizen Event with Google Slides

During this project, we will be working together to create a Kaizen Event for a warehouse worker and walk through the steps together to improve their daily workflow. By the end of this project, you will learn how to Create a Google Slides presentation and define Kaizen, create a process map, create a 5W and 2H root cause analysis, implement the improvements, and create an impact analysis of the Kaizen event.
Note: This course works best for learners who are based in the North America region. We’re currently working on providing the same experience in other regions.
