Koen Bertels

Koen Bertels is Professor Quantum Computer Engineering at University of Ghent. Previously, he was Professor in Computer Engineering at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science at Delft University of Techology, where he was responsible for the department Quantum and Computer Engineering.

Koen works on computer engineering aspects of realizing a quantum computer. He is the founder of the company QBee where they defined the full stack for a quantum accelerator, which can be seen as the ultimate heterogeneous co-processor to be added to any modern computer.

Carmen G. Almudever

Carmen G. Almudéver is a Distinguished Researcher with Universitat Politècnica de València, Valencia, Spain. Until 2021, she was an Assistant Professor at the Quantum and Computer Engineering Department of Delft University of Technology. She works on the definition and implementation of a scalable quantum computer architecture, and more specifically on the mapping of fault-tolerant quantum circuits onto different qubit topologies.

She holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain. During her PhD, she was working on “beyond-CMOS” technologies such as carbon nanotubes and memristive devices as well as on novel re-configurable architectures and dynamic computing systems. In 2012 she received a fellowship from Intel (Doctoral Student Honor Programme).

David Elkouss

David is a group leader at QuTech, Delft University of Technology and an Associate Professor at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology. The aim of David's group is to develop the tools, such as entanglement purification protocols, novel error-correcting codes, quantum network protocol benchmarks, and quantum network simulators that will enable the implementation of the first quantum networks.

Nader Khammassi

Nader Khammassi is Research Scientist at Intel Labs. Perviously, he was a post-doctoral researcher at QuTech, Delft University of Technology, where his work included the design of the QX quantum computer simulator and the OpenQL quantum programming framework.

He obtained his Electrical Engineering degree from the National School of Engineering in Brest (ENIB) in France, and he received his PhD cum laude in 2014 for his research on High Performance Computing for Multicore Architectures at the National Engineering School of Advanced Technology (ENSTA) in Brittany, France. He worked as a research engineer at Thales Airborne Systems on high-performance signal processing applications.

Fabio Sebastiano

Fabio Sebastiano is an Associate Professor and Research Lead for the Quantum Computing division at QuTech, Delft University of Technology. His main research goal is to interface integrated circuits with the world outside the silicon chip, both by building better sensor read-outs and by interacting with new computing devices.

Fabio received his PhD from TU Delft in 2011. At NXP Semiconductors from 2006 to 2013, he carried out research on sensor read-outs and integrated references, before joining TU Delft in 2013.

Barbara Terhal

Barbara Terhal is a Professor at the EEMCS Department at Delft University of Technology and a staff member at QuTech since 2017. She has a long-standing interest and track-record in quantum error correction and fault tolerance. She views a scalable implementation of quantum error correction as one of the great challenges in physics today. The fact that this challenge can be viewed both as a question of ‘mere engineering’ as well as a question about the fundamental viability of macroscopic quantum information, is precisely what makes it fascinating, and thus its resolution ground-breaking.

Barbara received her PhD degree cum laude from the University of Amsterdam in 1999 on “Quantum Algorithms and Quantum Entanglement”, making her the first person to get a PhD in quantum computing in the Netherlands. After her PhD thesis, she was a postdoc at IBM Research at Yorktown Heights, NY and at Caltech, before returning to IBM as research staff member in 2001.

In 2010, she left IBM to become professor in theoretical physics at RWTH Aachen University, supplemented by a position at FZ Juelich from 2015 until 2022. She has been a fellow of the American Physical Society since 2007, and a distinguished visiting research chair at Perimeter Institute since 2014.

Ben Criger

Ben Criger is a Senior Research Scientist, Quantum Error Correction at Cambridge Quantum Computing. He completed his PhD at the Institute for Quantum Computing in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at QuTech, Ben focused on reducing error rates in quantum computation, taking advantage of the special characteristics of different physical devices to enhance the performance of small fault-tolerant computations.
