Professor Cheng is Head of the Department of Surgery. His interests are in advanced endovascular management of aortic diseases. He authored over 200 publications and is on the Editorial Board of many journals, including JAMA Surgery and Journal of Vascular Surgery.

He is Honorary Fellow of the American Surgical Association, Honorary Member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and ANZSVS. He sat at executive boards of the IUA, the International Society for Vascular Surgery (ISVS), Chinese Society of Vascular Surgery and is Past President of the Asian Society for Vascular Society, and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong.

Ian Yu-Hong WONG

Dr. Ian Yu-Hong Wong is Clinical Assistant Professor and Honorary Associate Consultant in the Division of Esophageal and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong. He received post-fellowship training in Northwestern University, Chicago, USA and Seoul National University, South Korea. He is currently committee member and panellist of International Society of Digestive Surgery – Asian Pacific (ISDS-AP), Asian Pacific society of Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE) and International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE). He specialises his research interest on esophageal and gastric cancer management; diagnosis and management of esophageal motility disorder and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He has also been a seasoned contributor to high-impact surgical journals including Annals of Surgery, Annals of Surgical Onoclogy, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, etc.

Kent-Man CHU

Kent-Man Chu is Professor of Surgery, Honorary Consultant Surgeon, Director of the Surgical Endoscopy Service, and Director of the Centre for Education and Training, in the Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong at Queen Mary Hospital. He was the Chief of the Division of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery until its merge with the Division of Esophageal Surgery. He obtained his undergraduate medical degree from The University of Hong Kong in 1987.

His main clinical and research interests are on peptic ulcer diseases, gastric tumours, endoscopy and surgery for the upper gastrointestinal tract, and surgical education. He pioneered the use of intracorporeal hand-sewn suture anastomosis after laparoscopic gastrectomy.

Ava KWONG

Professor Ava Kwong is Daniel CK Yu Professor in Breast Cancer Research and Clinical Professor of Department of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong. Chief of Division of Breast Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital, Tung Wah Hospital and HKU-Shenzhen Hospital. Founder and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry. She is also currently a member of several committees specializing in Cancer Genetics & Colorectal and Breast Cancer Screening, in the HKSAR Government. Professor Kwong’s research interests focus on breast and ovarian cancer genetics, advanced surgical technologies, epidemiology, psychosocial studies and clinical trials in oncological treatment.

Brian Hung-Hin LANG

Prof. Brian Lang is currently the Professor in Surgery and Division Chief of Endocrine Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He also serves as the Director of the Surgical Skills Training Center at the Department of Surgery.

He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed international journals and 20 book chapters in thyroid diseases. His clinical and research interests include benign and malignant thyroid diseases, parathyroid tumors, adrenal and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. He has pioneered the use of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in the treatment of benign thyroid disease. He is the President of the Hong Kong Association of Endocrine Surgeons and is an editorial member of several international journals.

Simon Ying-Kit LAW

Simon Law is Cheng Kung-Hai Professor in Gastrointestinal Surgery, Chair Professor and Chief of the Division of Esophageal and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at The University of Hong Kong. He specializes in the treatment of both benign and malignant diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract, especially in esophageal and gastric cancers, gastroesophageal reflux diseases, and motility disorders of the esophagus. He has published nearly 300 articles and 40 book chapters. He has also been invited to give lectures worldwide on 350 occasions. He is an honorary member of both the American Surgical Association and European Surgical Association.

Wai-Lun LAW

Professor Wai Lun Law is currently Anthony and Anne Cheung Professor in Innovative and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The University of Hong Kong and Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital.

He possesses expert skills in various minimally invasive techniques including laparoscopy, advanced endoscopy, robotic and natural orifice surgery. His clinical and research interests focus on the management of colorectal diseases.

His work in colorectal surgery and minimally invasive surgery is internationally recognised.

He has published over 180 articles in peer-reviewed journals and is on the editorial board of numerous journals.

Gilberto Ka-Kit LEUNG

Gilberto Leung is a neurosurgeon, clinical professor, and the holder of the Tsang Wing-Hing Professorship in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Hong Kong. His clinical and research interests include endoscopic skull base surgery, neuro-oncology, neuroprotective therapy as well as medical education, law and ethics. He presently serves as the Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) of his Faculty, the Vice-President of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and the Region XVI Chief of the American College of Surgeon’s Advanced Trauma Life Support Programme.

Paul Kwong-Hang TAM

Professor Paul Kwong Hang Tam, a surgeon-scientist, is Chair of Paediatric Surgery and Li Shu-Pui Professor in Surgery at The University of Hong Kong.

He was Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool in 1986-90, and Reader and Director of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Oxford in 1990-96. Professor Tam has special interests in minimal invasive surgery, genetics and regenerative medicine of birth defects. He is international advisor to Lancet CAH, and has received numerous awards including Honorary Fellowship of the American Surgical Association, Denis Browne Gold Medal (British Association of Paediatric Surgeons) and Rehbein Medal (European Paediatric Surgeons’ Association).

Yiu-Che CHAN

Dr. Yiu Che Chan is Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Vascular Surgery of the Department of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong. He was awarded the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Travelling Scholarship and received training at UCLA in 2012. He is Director of Surgical Admissions at The University of Hong Kong, and Secretary General for the Asian Surgical Association. He is a vascular surgeon specialising in open and minimally invasive endovascular surgery involving the aorta, peripheral arteries and veins. He is a holder of multiple international and local research grants, and has published over 100 papers.

Velda Ling-Yu CHOW

Dr. Velda Chow is Consultant and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery of Queen Mary Hospital and The University of Hong Kong. She is currently Division Chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery and Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Chow graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 2005. She obtained her fellowship in plastic surgery in 2012 and Master of Surgery in 2015. She sub-specialises in head and neck oncology surgery and reconstruction. Her clinical and research interests include pharyngo-esophageal and nasopharyngeal tumours, and robotic surgery in the head and neck region.

Patrick Ho-Yu CHUNG

Dr Chung is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Paediatric Surgery, the University of Hong Kong. His research interest has concentrated on paediatric hepatobiliary diseases with emphasis on strategies to improve the outcome of these disorders in children. He has published 87 articles in peer-reviewed journals and hold influential positions in a number of loco-regional and international surgical organizations.

Dominic Chi-Chung FOO

Dr. Dominic Chi Chung Foo is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Colorectal Surgery of The University of Hong Kong. He became a specialist in general surgery in 2011 and attained the Master of Surgery in 2020.

His main interest is robotic rectal surgery and transanal surgery. Dr Foo is passionate about teaching. He is the Deputy director of the Clinical Skills Centre. He is the Honorary Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovative and the Chairman of the Basic Surgical Trainees Subcommittee of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong.

Nicholas KOTEWALL

Dr. C. Nicholas Kotewall is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation of The University of Hong Kong. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2010. He undertook his surgical training in Queen Mary Hospital and joined the Division of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation in 2018. He became a specialist in general surgery, a fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (Surgery) and a fellow of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2017. His major research interests include management of hepatobiliary malignancy and liver transplantation.

Wayne LAM

Dr Wayne Lam is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Urology, the University of Hong Kong. His clinical interests include reconstructive and prosthetic urology, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, anatomical endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (AEEP) with Holmium laser (HoLEP), innovative minimally-invasive surgical techniques to treat enlarged prostates, and endoscopic management of urinary tract stone disease. Dr Lam has published widely in all major urological journals and in textbooks. He actively involves in various training programs, courses and masterclasses.
